Spaces: Gather All Windows in One Space

by Matt on December 27, 2008

This is a post for the disorganized (that definitely includes me): try Apple’s Spaces if you never have. It’s in the System Preferences under “Exposé & Spaces.” Spaces lets you have multiple virtual desktops (four by default). You can open windows or applications in designated spaces. For example, you could have your web browser open in Space 1, your Word document in Space 2, Matlab in Space 3, and Stickies open in Space 4.

While Spaces is (are) a great way to organize your windows, you might find that you start opening even more of them since your Desktop appears to be uncluttered. You may want to gather all of the open windows in one space to better manage them, rather than going to each Space and dragging each window to the Space you want. How do you do this?

  1. Activate Spaces (the default button is F8, but check your preferences).
  2. Simply type the letter “c” and all the windows should gather in one space!

Did this tip work for you? Have a better way to accomplish this or use Spaces? Let others know in the comments.
