Apple has made it very easy to install Mac OS X Lion: simply buy it from the Mac App Store, and when the installer has finished downloading, it will open right up, and you can begin the installation. What could be easier? Well, one problem with this is that Apple deletes the Lion installer once you have completed the installation. This prevents you from using the program again to install Lion on another Mac at home or to put the installer on a DVD or USB thumb drive. So how can you get this installer back? If you open the Mac App Store and click on the Purchases tab, you will notice that Lion says it is already installed, despite the fact the installer has disappeared. The program won’t let you download Lion again. Here’s what to do:
- Open the Mac App Store.
- Hold down the Option key, and without letting go, click on the Purchases tab of the Mac App Store window.
- Find the line with “Lion.” You should now have the ability to press the “Install” button to re-download Lion.
- Once the download completes, the Lion installer will open on its own. Instead of proceeding with the installation, quit the installer. The application “Install Mac OS X Lion” will now remain in your /Applications folder.
